This is a multi purpose sauce packed with flavor! Nutritional yeast, if you have never used it, is absolutely magical! This recipe is a great way to start using nutritional yeast, as you can branch out from here once you get the taste of it, try not to go overboard! Nutritional yeast comes in two forms, flakes and powder. There isn’t much a difference in my opinion, it just depends on what is available to you, as it all tastes the same. You can find nutritional yeast at most health food stores in the bulk food section. Use it on a salad, over rice, eggs, popcorn etc. Works great when paired with plain greek yogurt!
Here is what you will need:
1 Cup water
1 Cup olive oil
1 Cup ground almonds
1/2 Cup lemon juice
1 Cup nutritional yeast
2 Cans garbanzo beans drained
1 tsp salt
1tsp cumin
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp turmeric
2 Cloves garlic
If you are using whole almonds, you will want to grind them up first. I use my blender for this. Once ground, add water, lemon juice, olive oil and garbanzo beans. You want all the wet ingredients on the bottom to help with the blending process.
Add all of your seasonings and blend until smooth. You don’t want the final product to be chunky or like nut butter. Ideally you should not be able to tell Almonds were used at all.
Enjoy!
